The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (IMDB 7.8/10) is an unusual movie, not likely one you'd choose by chance. It stars Tommy Lee Jones (who also directed), Barry Pepper, and Melissa Leo (Homicide: Life on the Street).

The story is highly topical in view of the current immigration issues. It involves Texans, illegal Mexicans, and the Border Patrol.

At first it seems hard to get a handle on what's going on because it's not presented in chronological sequence. There's a lot for the viewer to think about. The film doesn't post orange flags at every point of significance in the story. It's up to you to make the connections and see the relationships.

Worth watching ****
